Battlefield 6 Players Agree: Challenges Are Overly Demanding

The launch of the highly anticipated Battlefield 6 garnered widespread acclaim, particularly for its flagship multiplayer mode. On Steam alone, live player figures surged to nearly 750,000. However, regardless of its fanfare, an increasing amount of players are protesting against several of the title's hardest challenges, which are required to access certain guns.

Players have started using custom matches created through the Portal feature to finish these tasks, underscoring just how grueling these assignments have become.

Comprehending Battlefield 6 Assignments

Assignments are Battlefield 6's ongoing multiplayer objectives, as opposed to the periodically changed everyday and weekly missions. It features four classes of assignments, but although many simply offer cosmetics and some tools, completing the weapon assignments is the only way of getting 12 of the 41 key firearms available in the game.

Some of these gated guns may soon make their appearance on rankings for the best guns in Battlefield 6.

Gamer Backlash across Reddit

Over on Reddit, players are understandably expressing their worries about how hard and tedious a number of these challenges are. One user highlighted one of the most extreme examples, needed to obtain the KTS100 MK8 LMG:

  • Neutralize 300 foes with LMGs
  • Deal 10,000 close-range damage with LMGs

"This challenge is so terrible and entirely ill-conceived, I want to tear my hair out," is a statement that captures just how excessively challenging these tasks are.

The suppression feature in the game is less effective than in previous titles in the series, so it lacks nearly as many advantages in battle as it did in previous games. It only counts as suppression if you fire a burst without hitting the target.

At the same time, using an LMG from the hip is extremely unreliable and is effective only at very short distances, which is seldom the location you aim to be. The same user also noted the contradiction in the SMG challenge, to unlock the SCW-10, which needs takedowns using ADS, when that challenge would be much better suited to hipfire kills, and the other way around.

Another Extremely Difficult Mission

Another Reddit user brought attention to an additional excessively hard challenge, this time in the long-range weapon type to obtain the PSR:

  • Secure 150 precision takedowns beyond 200 meters with marksman guns

This is challenging enough on its own, but there's another important point to consider: the majority of Battlefield 6 maps do not even allow combat at those extended distances.

There exists a reasonable assortment of map sizes, but because there are just nine battlegrounds in the game right now, it implies you must stick to playing one of the larger locales, another expansive area, and maybe Operation Firestorm at a push if you want to snipe from over 200m away.

The Alternative Method

However, there is a solution: the custom game tool. The Battlefield Portal is a system that permits you to make custom game modes on the battleground of your choice, including AI opponents. This implies you can exploit the mechanics… but it doesn't really seem like the intended gameplay experience.

But when tackling the tasks in a normal session feels like anti-playing, since you have to play in such an unconventional way that doesn't benefit you or your team, who can blame someone for finishing these in a personal session so teammates aren't hindered?

Future Adjustments

It should not be shocking if several of these tasks are toned down in the near future, because if they're not, a portion of the user base simply won't get their hands on the locked firearms.

Currently, the community continues to express their views on these strenuous multiplayer missions, hoping for a less arduous gaming experience in subsequent patches.
